Presentation :

The objective of the “Fuel Cycle” Major from the “Nuclear Engineering” and “chemistry” Masters is to teach the chemistry needed for the various stages of the cycle. Recent advances in this area are leading to a revolution in the approach to the reactor cycle by introducing the notion of recycling, perhaps even “multi-recycling” for a complete incineration in the reactor of the long live minor actinides. The vision of the “Fuel Cycle” integrates the confinement of radionuclides prior to storage, the development of new materials and the understanding of chemical and geochemistry mechanisms, which govern the evolution of storage. The training builds on the introduction to the basic concepts of research, which are necessary to advance, develop processes and design new industrial equipment and tools. Across this constantly evolving curriculum, constitution and education team, the “Fuel Cycle” Major has a proactive approach, where R&D, teaching, development and industrial engineering are intimately intertwined.

Learning objectives in terms of professional competence (the know and the know-how):

  • Fuel Management
  • Risk Prevention
  • Actinides and fission products chemistry
  • Waste Conditioning
  • Storage and Recycling
