The main fields of research of the radiochemistry group concern essentially the physico-chemical properties of actinides, in order to analyse and predict the behavior of these elements (characterized by their 5f/6d electrons) in condensed matter (solid state, liquid media, solid/solution interfaces).
The aim of the “solid sate” studies is the synthesis of actinides compounds (oxides, phosphates, carbides …) and the determination of the associated physico-chemical properties in relation with the alteration (water, irradiation) mechanisms of these solids.
The investigations on the actinides in liquid media concern the speciation (thermodynamic, electrochemistry and structural surrounding) of these elements in aqueous solution, molten salt and liquid ionic media.
The studies associated to the solid/solution interfaces lead to a better understanding (thermodynamic, structural and theoretical point of view) of the mechanisms of the interactions, at a molecular scale, between a radionuclide and a mineral surface.
These basic researches on actinides are linked to the nuclear fuel cycles and the nuclear wastes long term storage, in particularly the new fuels for GEN IV reactors and the environmental behavior of the radioactive matter.
